Silver Award | Girl Scouts

You have the power to improve your community through action.

Ready to help your community and earn one of the highest awards in Girl Scouting? Cadettes can team up with a small group of fellow Girl Scouts or work on their own. To earn the Silver Award, you will research an issue you care about, make a plan to address it, and then take action to improve your community.

You can become a Silver Award Girl Scout if you:

Are in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade
Are a registered Girl Scout Cadette
Have completed the Bronze Award, or a Cadette Leadership Award.

How to earn the Girl Scout Silver Award

Find an issue you care about.
Explore your community and think of how that issue affects your community.
Build your Girl Scout Silver Award team or decide to go solo.

Choose a Silver Award project that can lead to lasting change.
Develop your project.
Make a plan and put it into motion.
Reflect, share your story, and celebrate.

Your Step-by-Step Guide to the Silver Award toggle arrow

Meet the necessary prerequisites for earning the Silver Award.
Get ready for success.
- Review the Silver Award Checklist.
- Take the online Silver Award Workshop.
- Read through the Silver Award Workbook.
Identify an issue you care about.
Build your Silver Award team.
- Work solo or build a team of up to three other Cadettes.
- Connect with a Silver Award consultant or Silver Award manager (required) to guide you through the process.
  - Silver Award consultant is a key supporter who guides Girl Scouts across a service unit as they plan and complete their Silver Award project.
  - Silver Award manager supports a Girl Scout within a troop as they plan and complete their Silver Award project.
- Your service unit may have a designated Silver Award consultant or your troop leader can take the training to become a Silver Award manager. Still not sure? Submit a request to find a Silver Award consultant.
- Project advisors (optional) help guide the project and provide additional support as a community expert.
Explore your community. Research your issue, talk to community members, and identify a root cause.
Choose your Silver Award project.
- Please note that GSCTX is not currently accepting any property improvement project requests at our Girl Scout houses, service centers, or camp properties.
Make a plan:
- Draft your project proposal in the Silver Award Workbook.
- Submit your proposal using the Silver Award Online Approval Tool.
Share your approved proposal with your Silver Award consultant or Silver Award manager.
Put your plan into motion.
- Use the Silver Award FAQ to put your plan into action.
Submit your Silver Award Final Report to your Silver Award consultant or Silver Award manager by September 30 of the year you or your oldest team member completes grade eight.
Celebrate! Reflect, share your story, and inspire others.
- Your Silver Award consultant or Silver Award manager will request the award certificate from Girl Scouts of Central Texas using the Silver Award Certificate Request Form.
- Purchase your Silver Award Pin in the Girl Scout shop by presenting your certificate at the register.
- Share your story with local media using the Highest Award Press Toolkit.
