Commission on the Status of Women 70th Session Delegate Application
Each year, GSUSA joins over 5,000 women and girls from around the world at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York to participate in the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). CSW is a functional commission of the UN, dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. Every year, national representatives of Member States gather for a two-week session to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards, and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and the advancement of women worldwide. As NGO Consultative members, Girl Scouts of the USA and the World Association of Girl Guides/Girl Scouts participate to bring the voice of girls and young women to the global stage.
Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX, Council) is seeking applications from Girl Scouts interested in serving as CSW delegates representing GSUSA during the first week of the session, March 6 – 14, 2026. As CSW delegates, Girl Scouts will have an opportunity to learn and engage with GSUSA’s work around global advocacy, learn about global issues, how global entities function, and let their voices be heard on key global issues impacting girls and young women. Additionally, Girl Scouts chosen as delegates for CSW may also be asked to work with Council and GSUSA to lead Girl Scout CSW virtual programs in the spring and summer of 2026.
Conference information
- Priority theme: Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, policies, and practices, and addressing structural barriers
- Review theme: Women’s full and effective participation and decision making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. (Agreed conclusions of the sixty-fifth session)
Application criteria and expectations
Interested Girl Scouts should meet the following criteria:
- Be able to attend CSW70 March 6-14, 2026
- Commit to active participation in program preparation and events from September 2025-June 2026 (exact dates TBD)
- Be a registered Senior or Ambassador Girl Scout with the Girl Scouts of Central Texas council
- Be able to represent the diverse and inclusive voices of the Girl Scout movement
- Personal experience or connection with the themes under discussion preferred
Applicants should be prepared to:
- Participate in a 20-minute, virtual interview during after-school hours between August 25-29, 2025. Selected applicants will be informed of their interview selection time on Aug 22, 2025
- Attend the kick-off virtual meeting on September 23, 2025 at 6 p.m.
- Actively engage in all preparatory work, which includes attending biweekly webinars beginning in September 2025, completing readings/ homework, and one group presentation prior to attending the conference in March.
- Complete an Amplification/Take Action Project on gender equality in Central Texas by July 2026 (post conference).
Applications will be reviewed with all identifiable information removed. A committee of GSCTX staff members will score each application using a rubric. Questions should be directed to programs@gsctx.org.
