Embark on an eight-day adventure starting with three days exploring
the majestic Redwoods at Redwoods National Park and nearby state parks
- hiking Fern Canyon trail, biking the original Redwood Highway (now
closed to car traffic), and ziplining among the tallest trees on
earth. Take in soaring ocean views amidst the magical ancient trees.
Then spend a thrilling three days whitewater rafting the Lower Klamath
River, where you'll navigate exhilarating rapids, set up camp under
the stars, and wake up to the sounds of nature. Watch for eagles and
other wildlife while discovering hidden waterfalls. Enjoy scenic
drives and tide pool explorations along the rugged Northern California
coastline before returning to Austin.
This trip is great for
Girl Scouts who are interested in outdoor adventure, environmental
conservation, and protecting our natural resources. Applicants should
have a sense of adventure, confidence in being outside for full days,
an ability to lean into new experiences, and a willingness to work as
part of a team. Travelers should be able to participate in physically
challenging experiences, including hiking up to five miles with a day
pack and cycling.
