Looking for an engaging, fully planned day of outdoor fun for your Girl Scout during fall break? Send them on an exciting full-day excursion to Huntsville State Park packed with nature discovery, hands-on skill building, and lake adventures.
This program is open to Juniors and older and includes a full day of supervised activities, gear, lunch, and snacks.
Activities:
🐟 Ranger-Led Fishing: Cast a line with Ranger John to practice casting techniques, learn local fish habitats, and master safe catch-and-release skills.
🐊 Alligator Ecology Session: Discover the fascinating life cycle and habits of the American Alligator. Girl Scouts will learn the role gators play in freshwater ecosystems and essential safety tips for sharing waterways with local wildlife.
🚣 Kayaking on Lake Raven: Hit the water for an afternoon paddle to build confidence, teamwork, and basic stroke mechanics in a scenic setting.
🧩 Camp Games & Crafts: Enjoy classic camp games, group challenges, or a creative nature-themed craft between outdoor sessions.
🥪 Picnic Lunch & Socializing: A full picnic lunch and snacks are provided so Girl Scouts can recharge throughout the day.
Logistics & Transportation
- Bryan Scout House Shuttle: A limited shuttle service is available for ten Girl Scouts and one adult chaperone. The shuttle departs promptly at 8:00 AM and returns at approximately 6:00 p.m. (First come, first served during registration.)
- Direct Drop-Off: Caregivers may also drop off directly at Huntsville State Park to meet the group at 9:30 AM. Please sign up as an adult if you're able to be a safety-wise adult for this program.
What to Bring: refillable water bottle, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), clothes and closed-toe shoes that can get wet, plus a dry change of clothes for the ride home. A brief list will be included in the confirmation email.

Girl Scouts of Central Texas is deeply appreciative of this partnership, which makes our Texas Explorers program possible and empowers our Girl Scouts to develop advanced outdoor skills while exploring the incredible diversity of Texas State Parks. Together, we are cultivating the next generation of outdoor leaders and adventurers who will serve as the future stewards of our Texas lands. As a condition of this funding, GSCTX is required to collect demographic information for all participants. This data is shared with the grant funder in an anonymized and aggregated format only. It will not be tied to the participant's name or personal identity.
Location: Huntsville State Park, Huntsville
Supervision level: This is a DROP OFF event, however, we require a certain number of safety-wise adults in order for the event to happen. Please plan to drop off your registered Girl Scout with required paperwork submitted at check in. If you can volunteer, please register into one of the adult spots. If enough adults are not registered by the registration close date, this event may need to be cancelled. All adults registering to volunteer at the event are required to be a registered Girl Scout adult member, have a current/eligible criminal background check (CBC), and have completed GSCTX youth protection training.
Special instructions: All participants at this aquatic event will be required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (PFD/lifejacket) at all times due to the requirements of Safety Activity Checkpoints for this activity. However, swim assessments are required every year for youth and adults participating in any type of Girl Scout aquatic activities including, but not limited to, pool activities, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, etc. All participants at a swimming/aquatic event without a completed swim assessment should be assumed to be a non-swimmer and must always wear a Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (life jacket/PFD). See Safety Activity Checkpoints for details. Swim assessment paperwork should be retained by the troop leader and caregiver. Safety-wise adults should ensure that swimmers remain in aquatic situations appropriate to their swimming ability.
