Splash into adventure! Join us on the water for an exciting, beginner-friendly introduction to kayaking designed specifically for Brownies.
Whether it's your first time in a kayak or you just want to build your confidence on the water, this hands-on workshop will teach you the basics of recreational paddling in a fun, supportive environment. Brownies will team up in tandem (two-person) kayaks to build teamwork, learn essential paddle skills, and practice safe water habits!

  • Safety First: Practice proper life jacket (PFD) fitting and learn the safety rules of the water before launching.
  • Tandem Teamwork: Discover how to partner up, communicate, and steer together smoothly.
  • Basic Paddle Strokes: Master forward paddling, stopping, and turning strokes on calm water.

What to Wear: Clothes that can get wet (quick-dry shorts/shirts or swimsuits), closed-toe water shoes or sneakers, and a hat.
What to Bring: Refillable water bottle, sunscreen, a towel, and a change of dry clothes for after the session.
Safety Note: Certified lifeguards and kayak instructors will be leading the session and on the water at all times. All necessary equipment (kayaks, paddles, and life jackets) will be provided.

Location: Lake Park, San Angelo

Supervision level: This is a troop level event. Each troop must have the correct number of safety wise adults and is responsible for having the correct paperwork with them. Youth attending without a troop must have an adult present. All adults accompanying a troop to the event are required to be a registered Girl Scout adult member, have a current/eligible criminal background check (CBC), and have completed GSCTX youth protection training.

Special instructions: All participants at this aquatic event will be required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (PFD/lifejacket) at all times due to the requirements of Safety Activity Checkpoints for this activity. However, swim assessments are required every year for youth and adults participating in any type of Girl Scout aquatic activities including, but not limited to, pool activities, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, etc. All participants at a swimming/aquatic event without a completed swim assessment should be assumed to be a non-swimmer and must always wear a Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device (life jacket/PFD). See Safety Activity Checkpoints for details. Swim assessment paperwork should be retained by the troop leader and caregiver. Safety-wise adults should ensure that swimmers remain in aquatic situations appropriate to their swimming ability.

Badge/Patch: fun patch will be given out at the event.

Required paperwork: Please complete the following sections of the Council Event Health and Permission Forms, print, and bring with you to the event: Section A
