The PADI Mermaid course includes knowledge development and at least
two water skill sessions that develop more dynamic mermaid skills
beyond Basic Mermaid, including many skills that make mermaiding an
underwater self-expressive art, separate from other types of
diving.
(Note that the PADI Mermaid course includes Basic
Mermaid, so you can start with PADI Mermaid - there is no need to take
Basic Mermaid separately.)
When entering the Bryan Aquatic
Center, mention that you are here for the mermaid class. All
participants and observers will need to pay admission to the aquatic
center. ($2 child/$3 adult)
Prerequisite: Ability to swim at least 50m (164 feet) and float comfortably on the surface for 5 minutes. You must be at least twelve (12) years old.
Special Note: Swim assessments are required every
year for youth and adults participating in any type of Girl Scout
aquatic activities including but not limited to pool activities,
canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, etc. See pages 209-212 of Safety
Activity Checkpoints for details. Swim assessment paperwork should be
retained by the troop leader. Safety-wise adults should ensure that
swimmers remain in aquatic situations appropriate to their swimming
ability. Participants at an swimming/aquatic event without a completed
swim assessment should be assumed to be a non-swimmer and must always
wear a Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device
(PFD/lifejacket).
Swim test will be given out at the beginning
of the Mermaid class.
