May 31, 2024, Austin, Texas— Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX) is proud to honor 19 exceptional Gold Award Girl Scouts who have dedicated over 1,520 hours to impactful community projects, along with 17 distinguished scholarship recipients, who will be celebrated at a special ceremony at the Texas State Capitol on June 1 at 10:30 a.m.
The Gold Award is the pinnacle of achievement for high school-aged Girl Scouts. To earn this prestigious award, Girl Scouts identify critical issues on a local, national, or global scale, then design and implement projects that offer sustainable solutions. These young leaders address root causes, commit over 80 hours to their initiatives, and guide teams to successful outcomes. Their projects range from enhancing mental health support for teens to working hard to pass a law requiring schools across Texas to stock epinephrine, a medicine that can save lives.
Gold Award Girl Scouts develop a wide array of skills, emerging as effective project managers, persuasive public speakers, decisive leaders, and empathetic changemakers. These abilities set them apart personally and professionally. Research shows that 99 percent of Gold Award Girl Scout alumni assume leadership roles in their daily lives as adults. Additionally, earning the Gold Award provides a significant advantage in scholarship opportunities, college admissions, and career progression.
“The leadership skills, organizational competence, and sense of community and commitment that come from ‘Going for the Gold’ sets the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship,” said Girl Scouts of Central Texas CEO Paula Bookidis.
The Gold Award ceremony offers attendees a unique opportunity to meet the 2024 Gold Award Girl Scouts, learn about their innovative projects, and experience their passion for positive change. This event is a celebration of their achievements and the significant impact they have made in their communities.
We invite the media to join us in recognizing these outstanding young women. By sharing their stories of empowerment, resilience, and social change, we aim to inspire future leaders to contribute to a brighter tomorrow.
