Roll up your sleeves and discover hidden gems! Join us for a deep dive into history and science where you will uncover the legendary connection between pearls and the Girl Scouts-including how Juliette Gordon Low sold her own rare pearls to fund Girl Scouts in its early days. You'll also explore local history by learning about the famous Concho Pearls found in San Angelo.
But the adventure doesn't stop at history. Become an environmental scientist extraordinaire as you explore oyster anatomy and their vital role in ocean health. The best part? You will dissect a real oyster to recover a genuine pearl of your very own to take home!

Note: This activity involves real oysters. Those with shellfish allergies should not participate.

Supervision level: This is a DROP OFF event, however, we require a certain number of safety-wise adults in order for the event to happen. Please plan to drop off your registered Girl Scout with required paperwork submitted at check in. If you can volunteer, please register into one of the adult spots. If enough adults are not registered by the registration close date, this event may need to be cancelled. All adults registering to volunteer at the event are required to be a registered Girl Scout adult member, have a current/eligible criminal background check (CBC), and have completed GSCTX youth protection training.

Badge/Patch: Fun patch will be given out at the event.

Required paperwork: Please complete the following sections of the Council Event Health and Permission Forms, print, and bring with you to the event: Section A.
