Come sail with us! This weekend event is for new sailors as well as
those who have some time on the water under their belt (or
lifejacket!) by attending a Mariner event in the past (in person or
online). On Saturday Sailors will learn new skills and practice land
and water drills. On Sunday they will get up early and get out on the
water for a fun day of putting into practice what they learned the day
before.
Newer sailors will learn or review basics of sailing,
including wind speed measurement in knots; parts of the boat; rigging
and unrigging; and right of way. They will get to practice departing
from land, steering and turning the boat, and returning to shore
safely.
Sailors with sea legs (or lake legs) will learn or
review safety position, departing and landing, steering, and tacking.
They will gain proficiency and confidence in departing from land,
steering and turning the boat, and returning to shore safely. This
group will also have opportunities to develop leadership skills
mentoring newer sailors. It will be a weekend of fun on land and on
the water with drills and games at Blue Bonnet Shores on Lake
Belton!
