Calling all Girl Scouts and citizen scientists! Join the GSCTX City Nature Challenge to map the wild side of our world. From April 24-27, 2026, use the iNaturalist app to snap photos of plants and wildlife wherever you are-even your own backyard. Every discovery counts toward the global City Nature Challenge!
Taking part is easy!
1. Find wildlife. It can be any wild plant, animal, fungi, or any evidence of life found in your city. Wild means it wasn't put there and it isn't being cared for by humans.
2. Use iNaturalist to take a picture of what you find. Be sure to note the location of the critter or plant.
3. Share your observations through iNaturalist.
Knowing what species are in your city can help scientists, land managers, and communities study and protect our local nature. By participating in the City Nature Challenge, not only do you learn more about your local environment, but you can also make your city a better place - for you and other species.
The City Nature Challenge is an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April, where cities are in a collaboration-meets-friendly competition to see what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal. People around the world work together to find and document the nature in their area.
