Girl Scouts of Central Texas (GSCTX) is celebrating 26 change-makers who invested over 2,080 hours creating lasting impact on community issues important to them. These central Texas teen world-changers invite the community to support and honor the remarkable achievements of the 2023 Gold Award Girl Scouts and 14 scholarship recipients at a special event held at the majestic Texas State Capitol on Saturday, June 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Gold Award is the highest achievement a high school aged Girl Scout can earn. Award earners identify a national or global issue that matters to them and conceive and lead a project that creates sustainable change related to that issue. Gold Award Girl Scouts address the root cause of a problem, spend over 80 hours completing their plan and implementing innovative solutions to drive change, and lead a team of people to success. From tackling mental health needs to helping create inclusion by educating recent immigrants regarding Texas high school norms, and more—Girl Scouts are committed to making the world a better place.
As they take action to transform their world, Gold Award Girl Scouts gain tangible skills and prove they are the leaders our community and world need. Gold Award Girl Scouts in central Texas say they’ve become focused project managers, confident public speakers, strong decision-makers, and empathetic leaders. These skills give them an edge personally and professionally—research (PDF) shows that 99% of Gold Award Girl Scout alums take on leadership roles in their everyday lives. Also according to recent research (PDF), most Gold Award Girl Scouts get a boost in earning scholarships, in the college admissions process, and in professional advancement.
“The leadership skills, organizational competence, and sense of community and commitment that come from ‘Going for the Gold’ sets the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship,” said Girl Scouts of Central Texas CEO Paula Bookidis. “Despite of these uncertain times, Gold Award Girl Scouts have persevered. It is my hope that in many years they will be able to look back at this time in their life and celebrate their resiliency.”
During the Gold Award ceremony, attendees will have the opportunity to meet the 2023 Gold Award Girl Scouts, hear about their inspiring projects, and witness firsthand their passion and commitment to making a difference. This event offers a unique chance to capture Girl Scouts’ stories, celebrate their accomplishments, and highlight the impact they have had on their communities.
We invite members of the community to join us in recognizing these extraordinary young women and to share their stories of empowerment, resilience, and social change with a wider audience. By shining a spotlight on their achievements, we hope to inspire and encourage other young leaders to create a better future for all.
