Travel Opportunities

With a little help from your Girl Scout friends, you can see the world. Girl Scouts can take advantage of international travel and destinations.

Girl Scouts is developing a new approach called pathways to ensure that girls and adults have flexible ways to participate in Girl Scouting. The Travel Pathway offers leadership opportunities and cross-cultural understanding through council- and nationally-sponsored trips along with troop travel.

GSCTX is Going Global

Join one of our exciting teen travel groups to plan and implement a national or international trip in summer 2010 or 2011. You can join a group to begin planning one of two national trips in summer 2010 or an international trip in 2011. We’ve picked a general location and theme. YOU plan the rest. All details, itineraries, activities, budgets, and fund raising plans will be decided by trip participants. Sign up today for one of these fantastic trips. Once six girls have signed up, trip planning will begin and will continue up until the trip date. Girls can join at any time up to three months before a national trip and six months before an international trip.

Global Travel Toolkit

The Global Travel Toolkit consists of four new, exciting resources that prepare girls and adults for responsible international travel.

  • The Girl Scout Travel Log (PDF) - A journal for girls to record their travel experiences – before, during, and after your trip.

These resources encourage personal reflection, promote positive connections, and empower girls to use their travel experience to effect change in their lives and communities. The Global Toolkit also provides forms, detailed steps and travel tips.

Destinations

What are destinations?

A destination is a travel opportunity for teen girls to go somewhere new, meet new people and enjoy new experiences. Trips fall into five categories: international, outdoors, science, people, and getaways events.

1. Check out the destinations information packet to learn all about the destinations program.

2. View available events and download the application form at www.studio2b.org.

3. Complete the application form. Pick your top four choices. Print out the reference form and ask two people to write about how great you are.

4. Submit your application to the Girl Scouts of Central Texas Bryan Prorgam Center, attention: Destinations. Applications and references will be due by October 29, 2010.

5. You’ll find out if you’ve been accepted to go on your trip from the host council, Girl Guide Association, or private organization. A Girl Scout who is accepted must notify the Girl Scouts of Central Texas Program Department.

6. Be prepared to arrange and pay for transportation, pay a deposit to the host council or organization to hold your space if required, and pay a percentage of the event fee to the Girl Scouts of Central Texas.

7. If you are accepted and meet the council guidelines for financial assistance, the council will support one trip request during the program year. Click HERE for our updated destinations financial assistance guidelines.

8. After your trip, participate in a destinations rally in the fall to share your experience with girls who are considering taking a trip next year and speak to a troop other than your own in your area about your trip.
