Sustaining a Legacy of Leadership
Thousands of Girl Scouts in Central Texas take the lead in bettering their communities every year. Founder Juliette Gordon Low believed in the individual potential of each girl. Since 1912, Girl Scouts has inspired girls to become leaders through activities that are fun and personally challenging. Girls discover their potential, connect with others locally and globally and take action to make the world a better place.
Program Focus Areas
GSCTX emphasizes four program focus areas: Girls Go Tech, Girls Grow Strong, Girls Go Creative, and Girls Go Green. Through these program focus areas and our six participation pathways - camp, events, series, travel, troops and virtual - Girl Scouts prepares girls for positive leadership roles in their homes, communities and the world.
Outreach Initiatives
Not every girl has the ability or support to participate in Girl Scouting. To ensure that Girl Scouts is available for every girl, several outreach initiatives help girls benefit from the Girl Scout experience. These girls are served in uniquely targeted settings, including in-school programming, at juvenile detention centers and at children’s shelters. Programs emphasize life skills such as decision making and conflict resolution.
- Juvenile justice initiatives and EGSBB (Enterprising Girl Scouts Beyond Bars) focus on crime prevention through Troop 1500, Transitions and Troop 5100.
- Shelter initiatives include HACA (Housing Authority City of Austin), SafePlace and Settlement Home.
- Outreach also includes TexBridge, teen parent programs, Girl Scouting at area schools in Austin, Brownwood, San Angelo and Waco, robotics teams and outdoor program teams.
Why We Need Your Help
The depth and breadth of our programs and initiatives can only be accomplished with help from individual donors. Approximately 10% of our $7M operating budget relies on the generous contributions of individuals to ensure GSCTX can continue to deliver and expand outreach initiatives like EGSBB - Troop 1500, TexBridge in Austin middle schools, and the first statewide Girl Conference for high school girls.
An investment in Girl Scouts is larger than a cause or a cure - it's a commitment to a generation.
