Let's Go! 3 - Outdoor Skills (San Angelo) 6/10/23

This is the third step in outdoor training. This class trains volunteers to expand their horizons and move out of buildings and into the outdoors. This training course is required for primitive camping at a facility/location without running water and electricity (e.g. tent camping). Participants will learn the eight basic camping skills, how to include the girls in planning, budgeting, packing for an overnight trip, safety, fire-building, cooking, sanitation, and many other activities. This in-person course lasts five hours.

Prerequisite: Let's Go! 1 - Out & About, and Let's Go! 2 - Fire, Food, and Fun

Location: San Angelo Service Center

Special Instructions:  Bring paper, pen or pencil, camping chair, mess kit, water bottle, and be prepared to cook. Wear closed-toed shoes with hair pulled back. Feel free to bring a drink. Also bring your Outdoor Education in Girl Scouting book (If you have a copy or your troop has a copy you could borrow, please bring this book. It is optional for this training; however, your troop does need to have this book prior to camping and is available for purchase in the GS shops.) This training will not be cancelled due to weather.

Part of this training is to teach the skills/techniques/options of cooking in the outdoors. Food will be prepared and served at this training. Our facilitators do their best to be conscious of special dietary restrictions, but if you have a concern, feel free to bring your own food.
