Faith-Based Scouting

Girl Scouting encourages girls to grow in their faith, whatever it may be. Girl Scouting is based on the Girl Scout Promise and Law, which happens to include many of the principles and values common to most faiths. Girl Scouts is, and will remain, a secular organization. However, in the spirit of building girls of courage, confidence and character, it  also encourages girls to take spiritual journeys via their faith’s religious recognitions.

Many faith communities offer programs in conjunction with Girl Scouts. The design of My Promise, My Faith is to allow for the participation of girls from all faiths while alienating no one. Simply, if a Girl Scout wishes to integrate her Girl Scout experience with her personal faith experience, she is passionately encouraged to do so, whether on her own on in a troop setting.

At Girl Scouts of Central Texas, one of the ways we facilitate faith-based Girl Scouting is by partnering with different religious organizations that wish to form troops in order to strengthen the values and teachings they offer their girls.

Currently, Sacred Heart Parish has a multi-aged troop of 70 girls that began in 2013. It has flourished and has given GSCTX and the Austin Diocese the momentum to reach out to more churches to begin their own Girl Scouting experience.
