The 2014 Volutneer Enrichment Conference was a tremendous success attended by more than 350 participants!  Workshops offered throughout the day were well attended and very informative! Workshop Descriptions

Workshop #1

Money Earning and Collegiate Concessions for Troops or Girls: (Information Session)Need money for that terrific Trip, expenses for your Gold/Silver award, or Destinations. Find out about how to earn money for one-time events. Learn all about working at year-long collegiate concession booths. In this class you will learn how to submit a money earning application for one-time events or a collegiate concession money earning application.

Money Manager for SU Directors and Treasurers: (Training Session)The Money Manager Training is a new one hour course that is required for all co-signers on Troop, Group, and Service Unit bank accounts. Service Unit Directors, Service Unit Treasurers, and Council Facilitators that attend this course will receive Money Manager Trainer Certification allowing them to train co-signers. This course will review the responsibilities of those handling money, co-signing checks, reconciling bank accounts and filing financial reports.

Outdoor/Overnight/Travel Training Updates: (Information Session)Come learn about the revised Outdoor/Overnight/Travel training classes. Out and About; Fire, Fun, and Food; Camping 101; Chaperoning; Extended Travel; and First Aider. Plus the revised travel forms will be introduced.

SU Public Relations or Communications Coordinator: (Training Session) - You are the voice of your Service Unit in the community, the liaison between council volunteers and staff, and a member of the media team for our council.  This Key position will help to craft the Councils Communications strategy, handle internal communications between the SU and Council staff, and disseminate key information to Service Unit members. This training will teach you the skills and provide the tools you will need to creatively get the Girl Scout message out to your community, effectively share information within the GS community and become an ambassador for Girl Scouts with media.

Camp Volunteers Corps: (Information Session) - The GSCTX Camp Volunteer Corps launches THIS FALL!  Meet GSCTX Camps Coordinator KJ Falchuk for an overview of the purpose, vision, and logistics of this exciting new way to love our camps year-round!

SU Fall Products Manager: (Training Session) Join the Product Programs Team & our Ashdon Farms representative to be trained on the 2014-15 Fall Product Sale!! In this session we will be talking about the NEW Fall Product line up and incentives as well as the deadlines and details.  This session extends into Session 2.

SU Registrar: (Training Session)-part 1 of 2, all things paper - Learn all the ins and outs of girl, adult, and lifetime membership registrations, as well as find out what makes an Early Bird fly and how troops can be considered “On Time”.  Session will include an overview of forms, processes and what your role entails as a Service Unit Registrar. This class is intended for new Service Unit Registrars or those that did not take the course last year. Experienced Registrars are also welcome to attend and share their knowledge with those starting out in the position. This session extends into Session 2.

It's Your Journey, Love It – (Information Session) Need a refresher course or some new ideas about how to lead a troop or group through a Journey? Join us for some hands-on activities and to share ideas.

Girl Scout Ceremonies - (Information Session) What type of ceremonies are there? Why do a ceremony? Are there things we HAVE to do for a ceremony? Formal? Informal? Ever have these questions and more? If so, come to this class to learn a little bit more!

What is Trailblazers Weekend? - (Information Session) - Learn more about this spectacular leader enrichment weekend at Camp Texlake. What are the workshops offerings?  Who should attend?  What is the theme? Join us to make a something to share with your Service Unit to encourage them all to attend!  You don’t want to miss this fun filled fast paced workshop!

Silver Award Workshop – (Information session) This workshop will delve into what makes a good Girl Scout Silver Award project, how to fill out the paperwork, and the role and expectations of the Silver Award Committee. We will lead you through the process from the pre-requisites to turning in your final paperwork. Teen Girl Scouts are encouraged to bring their ideas to the course and be prepared to discuss them.

What is the Governance Pathway? (Information Session) This workshop will share the ins and outs of the governance side of our council. You will learn what the Board is responsible for and how they operate, the duties and responsibilities of a National and SU delegate, and the role of a Regional Chair?

Create your own Rallyhood: (Information Session) - Learn how Rallyhood really works. Come for a fun, informative session on what you, your troop, or your SU can do with Rallyhood. Presented by a Rallyhood consultant.

 Workshop #2

 SU Director Updates – (Information Session) – Service Unit Director Updates - A must for all SUDS – both experienced and new – Attend this class for all of the new updates from Council. There are so many updates, it will take two sessions. This class will extend into Session 3.

SU Treasurer Training (NEW)(Training Session) If you are a brand new Service Unit Treasurer, this workshop is for you! Please attend the “Money Manager for SUDs and SUTs” workshop in session 1 as a prerequisite to this training. This portion will be dedicated to working through the responsibilities of a Service Unit Treasurer. This course will walk through paperwork, record keeping, and other processes that can assist in ensuring accurate records for your Service Unit

SU Event Coordinator: (Training Session) Do you want to plan and lead a one-time SU event? Do the girls in your troop want to plan an event that will help them earn a badge or award? This class is for you. Come learn the ins and outs of planning, leading, delegating, and the paperwork required for an event.

Silver Award Consultants (SACs): (Training Session) This course is intended for all current and prospective service unit Silver Award Consultants (SACs). We will review the current paperwork and the SAC committee map. If your service unit does not have a designated SAC, please send a representative to gather information and meet with your SAC Area Leader who will further assist you. The Silver Award is the highest award earned by Cadette Girl Scouts and is the best preparation for the Gold Award. SACs meet with girls and/or troops to review the Silver Award requirements, answer questions about the process, and ensure quality projects. (This class continues in session 5.)

The Travel Pathway: (Information Session) What are travel pathways? Come learn how girls from all over council come together to plan, prepare, and travel.  Everything from local excursions to exotic travel locations as well as community service trips.

Series Coordinator (Training Session) – A series offers another way to engage girls and volunteers. Come to this workshop to learn how to utilize the series pathway in your service unit.

Songs 101 – (Fun Session) Learn the classic Girl Scout songs and how to teach them to the girls, leaders or your entire service unit.

Destinations (Information Session) – Ever wondered what a GS Destination is? This is the session for you! The information in this session will be provided by girls who have been on a Destination. They will share their memories and the fun of their trip. Then their parents will discuss the Destination process from their point of view: the application process, the financial commitment, and the challenge and excitement of sending their daughters off on their own.

Bronze Award Workshop - (Information Session) - This workshop will delve into what makes a good Girl Scout Bronze Award project, how to fill out the paperwork, and the role and expectations of the Troop Leader. We will lead you through the process from the pre-requisites to turning in your final paperwork.

GSCTX Board Meeting: (Restricted) - This meeting is for currently elected members of the GSCTX Board of Directors and the Strategic Planning committee. This class will extend into Session 3.

SU & Troop Rallyhood Demonstrations: (Information Session) - Learn how Rallyhood really works. Come for a fun, informative session on what you, your troop, or your SU can do with Rallyhood. Presented by volunteers that are super-users of Rallyhood.

Money Manager for Troop Leaders and Troop Co-Signers: (Training Session)The Money Manager Training is a one hour course that is required for all co-signers on Troop, Group, and Service Unit bank accounts. SU Friends of Girl Scouting (FoGS) Coordinator: (Training Session) - Get yourself geared up for a fun FOGS year!  Learn what FOGS is and how it’s important to your girls.  Share ideas about what works and learn how to be a fabulous FOGS Coordinator.  You will be inspired and charged up with the right tools to make this your Service Unit’s best FOGS year yet!

Introduction to SU Event Director: (Information Session) – Have you been asked to be the SU’s Event Director? Are you wondering how much time it takes, what the responsibilities are? This is the class for you. Come learn how the SU Event Director works with Event Coordinators to ensure that events are planned, financial reports are turned in, and safety-wise ratios are met.

Outdoor/Overnight/Travel Training Updates: (Information Session)Come learn about the revised Outdoor/Overnight/Travel training classes. Out and About; Fire, Fun, and Food; Camping 101; Chaperoning; Extended Travel; and First Aider. Plus the revised travel forms will be introduced.

Destinations Training: (Information Session) Destinations are nationally sponsored trips exclusively designed for Girl Scouts where girls apply through their council individually for the trip. Join this workshop to learn about the process. 

How to Have a Successful Recruitment Rally – (Information Session) SUDS & Troop Organizers – both experienced and new - should attend this informational meeting. Meet with a successful SU Recruitment Coordinator and here her wonderful way of recruiting leaders and forming troops.

Day Camp The Howdy Way: Planning, Persistence, and Patience - (Information Session) - Starting a Volunteer-Led Girl Scout Day Camp in your Service Unit?  Come visit the leaders of one of the longest running day camps in central Texas!  With experience hosting more than 400 participants per year we are thrilled to share our tips, challenges, and best practices from 30+ years.  Have a successful day camp in your area?  Come share your best practices too!

Workshop #4

Service Unit Treasurer Round Table Discussion: (Information Session) Experienced SUTs come meet our newest SUTs and provide them your experiences as a SUT. Share information about setting up bank accounts, reviewing financial reports, investigating accounts for misuse of funds, and closing bank accounts.

Introduction to Service Unit Director Training – (Information Session) Introduction to Service Unit Director workshop will include a very broad summary of the Service Unit Director position. This session is for those who would like more information about what is involved in becoming a Service Unit Director. This workshop is NOT Service Unit Director Training.

Service Unit Coach – (Training Session) New troop leaders need someone to learn from, someone to lean on. Learn the skills that will make them feel comfortable in their role as a leader.

Gold Award Consultants (GACs): (Training Session)This course is intended for all current and prospective council Gold Award Consultants (GACs). All about Adult Recognitions and SU President’s Awards: (Information Session) – WOW! You just attended the Adult Recognitions Ceremony and saw all of the Volunteers who were honored with Council awards. How did they get those awards? Come learn how to nominate volunteers in your SU or Troop for these wonderful awards. GSCTX is reinstating the SU President’s Award. Join us to learn the details of how to submit the application for next year’s Awards Ceremony.

Cookie Updates and Sneak Peeks: (Information Session) The Little Brownie Baker Representative and Product Program Team will offer a recap of 2014’s Cookie sale. Don’t miss out on the exciting new plans for the 2015 Cookie Sale!

Online Registration: (Information Session) Service Unit Registrar – part 2 of 2, all things online.  All Service Unit Registrars, both new and old, will want to attend this class. Service Unit Directors, Troop Leaders, Troop Coordinators or other eBiz enthusiasts are also welcome to join us. We will talk about the eBiz online registration tool and also give a brief update on the status of “eBiz Meetings”, the new online program/event/training registration tool we will be launching in late August.

Older Girl Retention Strategies - As girls get older the focus is on shifting leadership to them. This workshop will help you realize the importance of letting girls make decisions and how to keep them involved. How do you keep Girl Scouting relevant for teenagers?

Crafts & SWAPS:  (Fun Session) Have fun while making several SWAPS to take back to your troop or Service Unit and get ideas for more.

Religious Recognitions: (Information Session) - Understand how Girl Scouting emphasizes spiritual growth through religious recognitions.  Find out the difference between PRAY and the GSUSA award “My Promise My Faith”.

SciGirls – (Information Session)   is an Emmy-award winning PBS KIDS television series and website dedicated to changing the way millions of girls think about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math.) We welcome you to participate and practice proven strategies for engaging girls in STEM! Participants attending this workshop will:

• Learn the latest research for exciting and engaging girls (and boys) in STEM
• Experience a fun, hands-on STEM activity that puts a creative twist on learning
• Learn how to modify activities to engage kids in STEM using the SciGirls Seven
• Discover additional online resources that enhance teaching and learning experiences for all kids.

New Delegate or Regional Chair Training: (Training Session) - All NEW service unit delegates & alternates should plan to attend! These volunteers have the power and need to know how to use it to make changes in our Council.

Introduction to Facilitating Adult Learning - (Information Session) Are you interested in assisting us in expanding learning options for the volunteers in your local area? Attend this workshop to learn how to become a Council Facilitator and find out what it’s all about.

Workshop #5

Master Property Planning Updates - (Information Session) -Join us to learn about the plans for GSCTX properties as developed by the Long Range Property Planning Committee.

It's Your Team, Build it! - (Information Session) Are you holding several positions in your Service Unit? Are you beginning to experience burn out? Are you losing Service Team volunteers to burn out? This workshop offers possible options for breaking out positions within your Service Unit. How to ask for volunteers as well as how to say “no”. How to build your Service Team and create a succession plan.

SU Event Coordinator: (Training Session) Do you want to plan and lead a one-time SU event? Do the girls in your troop want to plan an event that will help them earn a badge or award? This class is for you. Come learn the ins and outs of planning, leading, delegating, and the paperwork required for an event.

Gold Award Consultants (GACs): (Training Session) - continued from session 4

Troop / School Organizer - This volunteer supports the whole service unit and is crucial in placing girls in troops and forming new troops so that every girl can be a Girl Scout. The troops can be from a particular school or a mix of schools.

Cookie Programs: (Information Session) Cookie novices and experts alike will have the opportunity to learn more about programming designed to support Cookie sales.  We will explain the ‘ins and outs and reasons why’ for current programs like Cookie Captain and Cookie U.  Also an exciting new Entrepreneur program for older girls will be highlighted. You won’t want to miss it!!

Games and Giggles: (Fun Session) We all have those moments when the girls just feel like being silly. We all have those times when our group needs a little team building. And we all have those moments when we just need to kill some time. Join us for a session of games and giggles. Learn some new games to help guide your girls through all their activities. This workshop is for volunteers that work with girls of all levels. Participants will leave with some new “back pocket” games.

Special Interest Groups: (Information Session) What is a special interest group?  Are there rules for hosting one?  Have you heard of the GS Harp Ensemble, Mariners, Robotics, Flag Corp?  These are Special interest groups.  Wanna hear more about how you can start one in your area?  Join us!

Delegate Meeting – (Restricted) - This meeting is for all elected 2013-14 Delegate/Alternates, Regional Chairs to discuss new council issues/policies. SUDs are invited to attend but not allowed to vote.

Facilitator Updates: (Information Session) – Change is good!  Join us to learn about the training plan for 2014-15. Find out about the upcoming facilitator retreat, online learning options and revised forms.
