Special Interest Groups

Special Interest Groups are open to all girls in grades 6-12 (some are open to even younger girls as noted in group descriptions); these are not Girl Scout-only groups. Your troop members aren't interested, but you want to be involved? No problem. Bring a friend, and make new ones! Safety-Wise adults will be provided at all interest group events unless otherwise noted. These groups are for girls, by girls, so other adults need not attend.

Super People Using Riding Skills (SPURS)

The SPURS program is offered to Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors who are serious about horses and helping. Participants learn everything about horses from nose to tail, develop strong safety awareness, learn how to assist an instructor and give basic riding lessons, develop riding skills, and learn barn management, equine first aid, advanced nutrition and grooming. SPURS members will assist with the year-round, weekend riding program.

Rock Climbing Interest Group

Girls' participation in outdoor recreation is a powerful tool for combating self-doubt and building courage and confidence in its place. By working with REI girls in grades 6-12 can enjoy monthly rock climbing instruction sessions to learn the basics of climbing techniques, belaying methods, and proper safety procedures. After having completed one of these courses, girls will have an opportunity to participate in four extended weekend trips.
